new visa questionnaireOn May 23, the US government released a new visa questionnaire for US visa applicants worldwide. The new visa questionnaire goes beyond any measure that was until then implemented, and is part of the administration initiative to follow through with President Trump campaign promise to tighten vetting of prospective visitors to the US. Further visa delays, and in many cases, visa denials are anticipated under this new form of acute vetting. It is important to be fully prepared to meet the requirements of this new visa questionnaire, as it could make or break ultimate entry into the US.

What information should be provided?

Under the new procedures, US consulates may request visa applicants to provide 15 years of personal information on the new visa questionnaire including the applicant place of residence, employment and travel history.

In addition, visas applicants may be required to provide emails and user name for any social media platforms going back 5 years.

How will the new visa questionnaire affect applicants?

According to the administration, only 1% of the 13 million visa applicants each year will be subjected to the extra scrutiny. The administration added that the new visa questionnaire is voluntary, however, applicants who do not disclose the information may experience delay or rejection of their visa application.

How to prepare for the questionnaire?

It is difficult to predict which applicants will be subjected to the questionnaire. Moreover, consular officials may ask the questions orally, or in writing during the visa interview. It is likely that applicants won’t know about the need for them to fill out the questionnaire until they show up for their interview. Therefore, applicants should be ready to be asked and answer the inquiries.

Here, the supplemental questionnaire.
